Camera Scanning - using a digital camera as a scanner -
July 23, 2009

One of the most promising developments in the scanning of film images is the use of a digital camera to digitize massive numbers of images very quickly. Using inexpensive equipment along with a digital camera, we've been able to make more than 1000 high-res scans of black and white film in a single day. This technique also works extremely well for color transparency film - providing a reproduction-quality scan for pennies apiece.

Camera Scans are not just faster to make, they take up much less room in storage than conventional TIFF-based scans.
And because your film can be scanned on-site, you don't have the worry of sending your valuable originals to a mail-order scanning operation.

In this class, you'll see several examples of camera scanning hardware, and learn efficient workflow for going from film to digital. We'll look at the software options for processing the images. You'll leave the workshop with the knowledge necessary to get this set up in your own office or studio.
New! White paper on camera scanning posted.

Who should attend this workshop?
This workshop is geared to photographers, collection managers, assistants, and production professionals who want to learn how to use this revolutionary technique.

The RapidFixer Plug-in has a mode that is geared especially to the adjustment of Camera Scanned negatives.
